I feel like we jumped from March to December in a quick blink. We are officially into the holiday season and this year it’s quite different. Meaning no holiday parties of large social gatherings with family and friends. Also no in person celebration of bringing in the new year with people on New Year’s Eve. As we are all dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, most of us will be spending more time at home.
Spending more time at home doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Just know that this situation we’re currently facing will not last forever and by the time you know it, we will be back to socializing and having fun again. But for now it’s just important to be safe and keep others safe as well. I’ve found some ways to keep myself entertained during the holidays and hopefully you can find these tips helpful too to get you through.
UTILIZE TECHNOLOGY TO YOUR ADVANTAGE
We are in a great time where technology is in our favor. We have our cell phones, laptops, tablets and the list goes on. Some of my family and friends live in different states and since we can’t physically see each other at the moment, we communicate utilizing FaceTime or Skype. I also just recently ordered the Amazon Echo Show 8, which is great for video calling and messaging my family and friends that have the Alexa app or an echo device. These tools are great ways to stay connected with loved ones during the holidays.
WATCH YOUR FAVORITE HOLIDAY MOVIE OR BINGE-WATCH A NEW OR EXISTING TV SERIES
Television is always a way to stay entertained. My favorite classic holiday movie is Home Alone 2: Lost In New York. It’s a favorite childhood movie of mine that is something I love to watch during the Christmas season to put me into the spirit. Not to mention it’s super funny. I also started binge-watching on a few shows on Netflix and Apple TV+ such as Emily in Paris, The Morning Show and the seasons of Sex and the City.
GET INSPIRED AND READ YOUR FAVORITE MAGAZINES
Take a break from social media and grab a few physical copies of your favorite magazines and read away. There’s nothing like a traditional hard copy of a magazine print to have on hand. Sure I can just download the copy on my tablet, but for me it would be easily distracting especially having social media and shopping apps at easy access. Reading is always a great way to get inspired and to discover something new. A few of my favorites are InStyle, Town & Country and Elle.
MUSIC IS GOOD FOR THE SOUL
Music is such a great way to get into a mood. Before I start my day, I have to at least listen to a playlist on Spotify. Usually around this time of year, I love listening to Mariah Carey because let’s face it, she is the queen of Christmas when it comes to music. I set up an entire holiday playlist on Spotify where I added Christmas songs from Mariah and other artists as well. Music is not only relaxing but it’s so good for the soul.
So these are a few ideas that help keep myself entertained during the holiday season. I hope that a few of these tips will help you too! Always keep in mind that this situation will not last forever, and this is only temporary. I would love to hear your thoughts and comments below as always! Happy Holidays guys and please be safe!
