Minimalistic living is a simple way of living that allows you to improve on your daily life by owning and doing things that add value to your life as opposed to just buying anything society dictates. Beyond living simply when it comes to your home and what you eat, minimalistic wardrobes have been the talk of fashion circles for a while now. This means that you can maintain a simple wardrobe with only essential clothes that make you happy and comfortable.
When it comes to having a minimalistic wardrobe, the key is to invest in key pieces, statement pieces and comfortable pieces that you will actually wear and maintain regularly. However, it can be a bit daunting to start your journey to a minimalistic wardrobe. To do so, you need to evaluate the pieces in your wardrobe that are actually essential to you and then work on donating the rest especially if they are stuff you haven’t worn in the past year. Here are a few tips to guide you on how to have a minimalistic wardrobe.

Clean Out Your Wardrobe
Like creating a new piece of art, always start with a clean canvas. Cleaning out your closet is the first step to creating a minimalistic wardrobe. This is because you will have the opportunity to take inventory of what you have which in turn will lead you to figure out what items you love 100%. The easiest way to do this is sort your clothes into donations, consignment and clothes to keep piles. For the clothes to keep pile, be selective and only place pieces you really love and are excited to wear. This means you do away with any piece that is worn out, scratchy, does not suit your personal style or is ill-fitting.
Define and Create Your Own Unique Personal Style
What colors and patterns do you like? Which materials and fits are you drawn to? What cuts do you love? When creating your unique look, be authentic and ditch style labels and seasonal trends and adopt a style that makes you feel most like yourself. Being unique is such a big trend right now.
Save for and Invest in Staple Items
One of the biggest barriers to having a minimalistic wardrobe is the cost of high quality clothing. However, once you identify your style as well as the staple items you need to achieve it, then you can save for the expensive pieces, shop deals and even shop secondhand for quality timeless pieces. Some key pieces I recommend investing in would be a leather jacket, leopard-print midi skirt, basic neutral tops such as white and beige. Be patient and do not switch it all at once to avoid this journey becoming burdensome.
Care for Your Clothes
Make sure you are properly washing and storing your wardrobe pieces to ensure durability. Invest in wooden hangers, which you can find almost anywhere. I get mine from IKEA, which are super affordable for under $5 for a set of 8. Not only will wooden hangers help your clothes look good but they are super chic looking than plastic hangers. Also take time to read up on the proper care of all your individual pieces so you can have them for years to come.
These are a few tips that I’ve found very helpful for myself that will transition your closet into minimalistic wardrobe. As always, I would love to hear your thoughts and any additional questions you may have. Feel free to just drop them down below in the comments. Until next time guys continue to stay safe!
