I have a love and hate relationship with summer. I love the season for the beaches, maxi dresses and the summer nights. I dislike the season for the series of heat waves that come along with it. Lately here in Philly, we been experiencing a serious heat wave stretch for the past two weeks. Unfortunately, the upcoming week appears to be no signs of relief as temperatures are above 95 feeling like over 100. Finding an outfit to wear during a sweltering heat wave can be a bit challenging, however it doesn’t have to be. Today, I’m sharing some helpful tips on how to dress for a heat wave, which has helped prepare me a great deal while keeping my style savvy look.
Avoid dark-colored clothing and wear for more light-colored clothing instead
I would highly recommend wearing light-colored clothing throughout the duration of a heat wave or during the summer months in general. Light- colored clothing can be like whites, pastels and bright colors. Dark-colored clothing can attract the heat making you feel more hotter. Before the summer season hit, I noticed myself buying more pastel colors in dresses and a few white tops. When buying clothes for summer, invest in more light colors and skip over the dark color clothing.
Wear more dresses instead of pants
There’s something about dresses that make you feel comfortable and cool. I’m not a big fan of wearing pants during a heatwave, especially denim jeans. Dresses are such a quick fix when it comes to just throwing it on for quick relief especially a maxi or midi dress. Definitely rack up on more dresses based on your preference. Zara has cute affordable dresses for summer as well as H&M. This adorable lace dress I’m wearing in the pictures above is from Zara. Unfortunately it’s sold out, but I’ve linked similar dresses above if interested.
Dress in less layers
Sometimes you may be tempted to dress in modestly by maybe throwing a little light scarf or wearing a cardigan to complete an outfit. However, layering will make you even more hot and uncomfortable. Instead of layering up with additional clothing, try wearing a statement necklace to give a definition to any outfit.
Just keep it simple
One of my favorite tips of them all, basically keep it simple. What I mean by this is keep your look as minimalist as possible by wearing less makeup and less jewelry. If you’re like me and love to stand out, you can always wear a statement bag which is an easy add-on to instantly update your outfit.
As always, I would love to hear your thoughts and any additional questions you may have. Feel free to just drop them down below in the comments.
