I’ve been getting many questions on how I make money as a content creator. The answer is through multiple streams of income which I will explain more in depth in this post. What I love about being a content creator is being able to create valuable content to share while living out my passion generating income at the same time. If you’re thinking about becoming a content creator, I highly encourage it. There is nothing like being your own boss and loving what you do.
In this post, I’m sharing the top 5 ways how content creators make money. In case you are thinking about becoming a creator yourself or just a bit curious, I give you all the tea. The blog and my social media (mainly Instagram) are the primary focus on where I generate income. The 5 ways are through affiliate marketing, brand collaborations, selling my own digital products, teaching an online course, and ad monetization. So without further ado, let’s jump right in….
Many people believe that content creators are just social media influencers and this is simply not true. So the main question is who exactly are content creators? Content creators consist of many different creative minds such as bloggers, social media influencers (Instagram, YouTubers, TikTok etc), podcasters, digital creators, magazine publishers, and so much more. I consider myself a content creator because I’m a blogger, editor and a social media influencer on Instagram and TikTok.
I can speak from experience the benefits of being a content creator are so rewarding. Doing something you’re passionate about and enjoy is such a great feeling in the world. I love writing and sharing my voice that will inspire others. It’s also so much fun creating and coming up with various ideas related to your niche, which mine is in fashion. Just getting your brand or name out there and knowing that you have admirers that look up to you and love what you do is enough. The best part of it all is being able to generate passive income while you’re creating, eating, sleeping etc.
Affiliate marketing is one of my favorite ways I personally love to generate income. It’a actually the most popular one amongst influencers. Affiliate marketing is basically earning a commission by promoting a product or a service created by a retailer or an advertiser. You get a link to that product or service and when someone clicks on that link and makes a purchase, the creator gets a small commission from the retailer or advertiser. There are so many affiliate marketing programs out there, but a few of my favorite I love include RewardStyle (Contact me firstname.lastname@example.org if you need a referral to RewardStyle), LTK, and Shopstyle Collective. I use affiliate links when linking my outfits throughout my blog post, on instagram including my posts and stories. You can put the links anywhere you desire on social media. This is a great way to make consistent passive income.
Brand collaborations is another popular source of how creators make money on social media. These type of collaborations can include a blog post that has been commissioned by the brand, an instagram post the brand wants you to create sponsored content for and this goes the same for TikTok and YouTube. Sometimes brands will reach out to you for creating commission for other platforms which include Facebook, Twitter and even Pinterest. Usually for blogs posts, they command very high commissions from brands because of the time it takes to write, edit and create the photography for the post. Trust me y’all, putting a blog post together is very time consuming. Also the benefits of owning a blog or website is a great online profile for brands to see your work and it establishes a sense of trust.
Selling your own products is such a great way to make money. Whether it’s selling digital products like eBooks, printable templates or handmade items, there is literally money to be made. I just recently created my first eBook on my Etsy shop where I teach creators and bloggers how to pitch to brands the right way. I’ve learned a lot over the course of 6 years of blogging and influencing and now I want to show other creatives. Maybe you want to create an eBook on how to become an Instagram or TiKTok influencer? Or maybe something that can help someone in everyday life such as a printable planner or a calendar? Whatever you decide, this is a great hustle to make money for sure.
Teaching an online course on something you’re passionate about is another great way to generate income. One primary goal I have for myself which I’m working on this year is to launch an online course to teach creators how to make money blogging. I’m hoping to have to launched before the end of the year. If you’re great at something, why not teach it to others? I have a friend that is great with photography and has developed a passion for it. She decided to design her own course teaching others how to start a business in photography. You can charge your price for your course and once it’s set, watch your income grow. The platform I love to use and many others is a place called Teachable. They offer different plans to choose from, but if you’re new the free plan is a better choice.
If you own a blog, website or even any of the popular social media platform such as YouTube or Instagram, why not utilize ads monetization? It’s the most easiest way content creators make money. Have you ever went on someone’s website or social media and seen ads? Let’s be honest, most of us ignore them from time to time but the other half tends to be drawn right in and will watch the ad. How ads work is the traffic that goes to any of your digital platforms you choose to have it posted (blog, Instagram, YouTube, etc.), is presenting advertisements to those viewers in exchange for payment from the brand advertiser. A great ad monetization place to check out include Google Adsense.
So there you have it! These are the 5 top ways how content creators make money. I would honestly love to see everyone become their own boss and work for themselves. Let’s face it, the job market is so crappy right now and full of nonsense. I absolutely love what I do as a content creator and would not change anything. If you’re looking to become a content creator or just a bit curious, I highly recommend saving this post for your reference. As always please feel free to leave me a comment below if you have any questions or just simply want to say hey! Thank you so much for all your continued love and support.
