5 Black-Owned Beauty Brands I Love To Shop

Before I started really getting into blogging, I use to have such a difficult time with finding the right kind of makeup. As a woman of color, searching for makeup formulated for my complexion was a challenge. The brown foundations I would buy at the drugstores would make me look orange, the blushes would make me look like Strawberry Shortcake’s little sister and the red lipstick shades were just too bright for my complexion. Since those days, many of the popular beauty brands have stepped up their game offering more choices of formulations and shade ranges.

As a beauty writer, it’s my job to explore the best beauty products out there for everyone. I feel like this is the right time to celebrate brands that are created F.U.B.U. (For Us By Us, which happens to be one of my favorite songs from Solange from the album A Seat at the Table). Just because a beauty brand is a black-owned business, does not mean it’s just for people of color. The 5 brands on this list serves anyone regardless of your race. So lets get into my 5 favorite black-owned beauty brands I love to shop.

Beauty Bakerie

Beauty Bakerie was one of the first black-owned business I’ve discovered as a beauty brand early on. The brand was founded by Founder and CEO Cashmere Nicole, a single mother and a breast cancer survivor. What I love about Beauty Bakerie is everything looks cute, delicious and good enough to eat. I tried almost everything from the lip whips to the eyeshadows you name it. The majority of the merchandise have baked good-related names such as “Proof Is In The Pudding Eyeshadow Palette” and “Snickerdoodle Lip Gloss“. Everything from this brand is soooooo good! I highly recommend trying out the Cake Pop Lippies and Do It For The Graham Palette. For the price, you get great quality makeup.

Fenty Beauty

When Fenty Beauty first launched in 2017, I was very excited because of Rihanna finally released 40 foundation shade ranges that would give me options finding that perfect match. The makeup line is amazing from eyeshadows to highlighters you name it. The focus was to give all women of all skin types the options to find what works for them. Good job Badgalriri!

The Lip Bar

I first heard about The Lip Bar when I attended the Beautycon NYC. A full-sized lip gloss was in my hauler swag bag from the event. Ever since, I’ve been hooked on their lipglosses and even tried several of their lipsticks. My favorites include Dream Chaser, Prima Donna and Cosmo. Don’t let the name fool you, they also offer other makeup products such as foundation, eyeshadow palettes and Mascara. I’ve tried a few of the eyeshadow palettes that are really good, such as the Brown Bombshell and Fair-y Princess. I have yet to tryout the serum foundation, which I plan to do so this summer. Ranging from 26 shades to choose from, I’m sure to find something as close as possible to my complexion without the struggle.

Mented

A good friend of mine introduced me to Mented when she ordered one of their top selling everyday eyeshadow palette. After seeing how beautiful the shades were and the high pigmentation it showed, I knew instantly I wanted this palette for myself. Once I finally received it, I feel instantly in love! I decided to check out other products on their website. I’m addicted to their Berried Away Blush because it highlights my complexion so well and I get so many compliments every time I wear it. The red matte lipsticks are great too because they offer the perfect mixture of red shades ranging from bright to deep tones. All the lipsticks are vegan, paraben-free, non-toxic and cruelty free.

Hyper Skin

Where has this brand been all my life? Especially when I was in high school during my acne scarring days. The Brightening Clearing Vitamin C Serum is amazing! From time to time, I’ve experienced breakouts and then sometimes scaring from the results of that. After using this vitamin C serum for about a month, my dark spots faded away so quick and my skin looks so much brighter. If you ‘re looking for a product to help with hyperpigmentation, dark marks and clearer skin, this is it! I highly recommend checking this serum out because it’s wonderful. I can’t tell you how many I’ve tried and none of the serums was as good as this one! It’s currently backordered at the moment, but you can preorder. As I was writing this post, I just preordered another one so I can have extra once I use the one I currently have.

Have you ever shopped at any of the black-owned beauty brands? What are some of your favorite beauty brands in general? I would love to hear your thoughts and reviews. Feel free to just drop them down below in the comments.

xoxo♥
